This market, also known as Alaranta, is located just a few hundred meters from Central Square Laukontori was named after the first steamship to operate on Lake Pyhäjärvi—the paddle steamer Laukko, which sailed in the 19th century.

At the market, you’ll find traditional grills and cafés alongside trendy street food stalls offering a wide variety of treats—from black sausage and vendace to international street food dishes. The market also offers fresh berries, vegetables, and flowers—and you might even come across some interesting flea market finds.

Cruise boats also depart from the edge of the market, heading to destinations such as Viikinsaari—offering a wonderful opportunity to experience the beautiful scenery of Lake Pyhäjärvi from the water. Nearby, you’ll also find Kehräsaari and the Ratina waterfront, which add to the area’s diverse offerings. The market is open on weekdays from 6 AM to 8 PM and on Saturdays from 6 AM to 6 PM. The main selling season runs from early May to mid-September.
